Crafting an interest for the natural landscape of New England, Sam White in hand with his wife Agnes established Sam White & Sons in the small, farming community of Newton, Massachusetts in 1954. The couple and their six kids ran the company out of the living room of their Newton home. Agnes was the company secretary, and Earle B. White Jr., along with his brother Jack, helped get the business running after his service in the United States Army. Together, the family delivered landscape supplies to the surrounding area with their three company trucks.
The company became incorporated in 1960 and began a slow expansion. What was once a small business specializing in loam products, a growing medium for most vegetation, eventually became a prevailing, multi-aspect landscape supply company. Now three generations later, Sam White & Sons operates throughout southeastern Massachusetts including its initial location of Newton, as well as two additional locations in Medfield and Middleborough.
